Santosh Rananaware

Hi, I’m Santosh and this is my personal website. A Flâneur is an old French term that means a stroller or an idle lounger. It also refers to a person who roams the streets leisurely, observing life and society. This site has been created to be a time capsule for my thoughts and ideas as I wander through the streets of life in the early 21st century.

I am a PhD student at the University of Florida. My research is based on discovering and engineering novel CRISPR/Cas systems in order to make them better at editing genes and diagnosing infectious diseases. Right now, I am working towards developing next-generation CRISPR/Cas based diagnostic tools.

Whenever I’m not doing research, I love to read, master new languages, travel, and learn about places, people, events and stories. I am particularly fond of solving puzzles and playing strategy games such as Chess or Catan.

More than anything else, I have created this website as an excuse (and space) for me to start writing again, an activity that brought me immense joy during my childhood but one that I lost in the pandemonium of growing up. I hope to make this website a central point for all of my original works.
